In 1971 around 1,160 suicides occurred in Switzerland, 10 more than in 1970. In 1971, on average 3 Swiss committed suicide every day.

Switzerland reported 18.7 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 11.63 suicides per 100,000 people.

Switzerland, has a relatively low rate of suicide per inhabitants.

Of the 1,160 recorded suicide cases in 1971, 798 were men suicides and 362 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 26.3 per 100,000 men and for women 11.4 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
