In 1972 around 1,523 suicides occurred in Spain, 50 more than in 1971. In 1972, on average 4 Spaniards committed suicide every day.

Spain reported 4.4 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 11.98 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Spain has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 1,523 recorded suicide cases in 1972, 1,123 were men suicides and 400 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 6.6 per 100,000 men and for women 2.3 per 100,000 female.
