By 2019, suicides in South Korea increased by 129 people to at 13,799 suicides In 2019, on average 38 South Koreans committed suicide every day.

In South Korea there were 26.7 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 9.37 suicides per 100,000 people.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In South Korea suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 297 homicides in South Korea, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 46.5 suicides.
