Suicides increase in Rwanda

In 2006 occurred 938 suicides in Rwanda. This year, 10 more people committed suicide than in 2005. On average, there are 3 suicides per day.

Rwanda had 10.42 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.12 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 938 recorded suicide cases in 2006, 819 were men suicides and 118 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 18.34 per 100,000 men and for women 2.47 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Rwanda suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 319 homicides in Rwanda, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.9 suicides.
