Suicides decreased in Paraguay

In 2004 around 514 suicides occurred in Paraguay, 59 less than in 2003. In Paraguay, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Paraguay reported 9.05 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.53 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 514 recorded suicide cases in 2004, 329 were men suicides and 185 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 12.04 per 100,000 men and for women 6.9 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Paraguay. However, in Paraguay in 2004 there were there were 1,209 homicides, and therefore, number of deaths by murder is far greater than people to take their own lives. There were 2.4 homicides per suicide.
