Number of suicides increases in Oman

In 2006 around 100 suicides occurred in Oman, 1 more than in 2005.

Oman reported 3.75 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.12 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 100 recorded suicide cases in 2006, 89 were men suicides and 12 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 6.04 per 100,000 men and for women 1.05 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Oman. However, in Oman in 2006 there were there were 121 homicides, then, homicides are more common than suicides. There were 1.2 homicides per suicide.
