In 1968 around 2,863 suicides occurred in Italy, 50 less than in 1967. In 1968, on average 8 Italians committed suicide every day.

Italy reported 5.4 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 11.66 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Italy has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 2,863 recorded suicide cases in 1968, 2,003 were men suicides and 860 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 7.7 per 100,000 men and for women 3.2 per 100,000 female.
