In 2019 around 390 suicides occurred in Ireland, 47 less than in 2018. In Ireland, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.
Ireland reported 7.88 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.37 self-harm per 100.000 people.
Of the 390 recorded suicide cases in 2019, 300 were men suicides and 90 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 12.24 per 100,000 men and for women 3.61 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Ireland suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 32 homicides in Ireland, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 12.2 suicides.
