Chile has a low suicide rate

In 1973 occurred 490 suicides in Chile. This year, 68 fewer people committed suicide than in 1972. In Chile, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Chile had 4.9 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 11.95 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Chile has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 490 recorded suicide cases in 1973, 392 were men suicides and 98 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 7.9 per 100,000 men and for women 1.9 per 100,000 female.
