In 1970 around 579 suicides occurred in Chile, 70 less than in 1969. In Chile, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Chile reported 6.1 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 11.8 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Chile has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 579 recorded suicide cases in 1970, 456 were men suicides and 123 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 9.7 per 100,000 men and for women 2.5 per 100,000 female.
