In December, vehicle registrations in Canada fell by 13.36% with respect to December of 1956. In total, 27,104 cars were registered and 458,299 new cars were sold in the last twelve months, 8.33% less than the year before.
The breakdown of car sales figures for the month of December is:
- Commercial vehicles sold: 3,944, 33.31% less than in December of 1956.
- Passenger cars regitrations: 23,160, which represents a figure of 8.7% less than in December of 1956.

With annual sales of 27.26 cars per 1,000 residents, 1.61 of them in the last month, Canada, occupies pole position, which tells us that its population enjoys a high standard of living.
As can be seen, the number of registrations per thousand residents has fallen in the last year. A drop in registrations generally indicates a fall in consumer confidence and, when it is sustained, a recession in the real economy.
