Suicides increase in Zambia

In 2014 occurred 1,021 suicides in Zambia. This year, 34 more people committed suicide than in 2013. On average, there are 3 suicides per day.

Zambia had 6.5 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.71 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 1,021 recorded suicide cases in 2014, 785 were men suicides and 236 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 10.14 per 100,000 men and for women 2.95 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Zambia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 825 homicides in Zambia, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.2 suicides.
