South Korea had 24.3 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 9.42 suicides per 100,000 people.
South Korea has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.
Of the 12,463 recorded suicide cases in 2017, 8,922 were men suicides and 3,541 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 34.7 per 100,000 men and for women 13.8 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In South Korea suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 301 homicides in South Korea, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 41.4 suicides.
