There are 30 suicides per day in South Korea

In 2003 around 10,973 suicides occurred in South Korea, 2,308 more than in 2002. In 2003, on average 30 South Koreans committed suicide every day.

South Korea reported 22.9 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 10.69 suicides per 100,000 people.

South Korea has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 10,973 recorded suicide cases in 2003, 7,568 were men suicides and 3,405 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 31.4 per 100,000 men and for women 14.3 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In South Korea suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 387 homicides in South Korea, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 28.4 suicides.
