By 2000, suicides in South Korea increased by 612 people to at 6,522 suicides In 2000, on average 18 South Koreans committed suicide every day.

In South Korea there were 13.9 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.98 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 6,522 recorded suicide cases in 2000, 4,528 were men suicides and 1,994 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 19.1 per 100,000 men and for women 8.5 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In South Korea suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 370 homicides in South Korea, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 17.6 suicides.
