South Africa has a low suicide rate

In 2014 around 582 suicides occurred in South Africa, 8 less than in 2013. In South Africa, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Of the 582 recorded suicide cases in 2014, 461 were men suicides and 121 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 1.7 per 100,000 men and for women 0.4 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in South Africa. However, in South Africa in 2014 there were there were 17,805 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 30.6 homicides per suicide.
