Number of suicides increases in Singapore

In 2003 around 536 suicides occurred in Singapore, 1 more than in 2002. In Singapore, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Singapore reported 13.02 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.69 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 536 recorded suicide cases in 2003, 335 were men suicides and 200 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 16.07 per 100,000 men and for women 9.88 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Singapore suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 27 homicides in Singapore, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 19.9 suicides.
