Number of suicides increases in Serbia

In 2017 around 1,005 suicides occurred in Serbia, 43 more than in 2016. On average, there are 3 suicides per day.

Serbia reported 14.34 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 9.42 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 1,005 recorded suicide cases in 2017, 763 were men suicides and 242 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 22.37 per 100,000 men and for women 6.72 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Serbia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 86 homicides in Serbia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 11.7 suicides.
