Number of suicides increases in Saint Lucia

In 2003 around 15 suicides occurred in Saint Lucia, 4 more than in 2002.

Saint Lucia reported 9.59 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.69 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 15 recorded suicide cases in 2003, 8 were women and 7 were men. More women than men die by suicide each year, and is among the few countries where the female rate is higher than the male rate.10.29 women per 100.000 female cause their own deaths and 8.64 men per 100.000 male..
