Number of suicides increases in Paraguay

In 2013 around 657 suicides occurred in Paraguay, 27 more than in 2012. In Paraguay, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Paraguay reported 10.01 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.78 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 657 recorded suicide cases in 2013, 452 were men suicides and 204 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 14.96 per 100,000 men and for women 6.85 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Paraguay suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 604 homicides in Paraguay, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.1 suicides.
