Mongolia has a very high suicide rate

In 2003 occurred 688 suicides in Mongolia. This year, 45 more people committed suicide than in 2002. In Mongolia, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Mongolia had 27.58 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 10.69 suicides per 100,000 people.

Mongolia has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 688 recorded suicide cases in 2003, 565 were men suicides and 123 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 45.15 per 100,000 men and for women 9.73 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Mongolia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 343 homicides in Mongolia, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2 suicides.
