Mexico - Intentional self-harm

By 2002, suicides in Mexico increased by 60 people to at 3,871 suicides In 2002, on average 11 Mexicans committed suicide every day.

In Mexico there were 3.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.78 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 3,871 recorded suicide cases in 2002, 3,189 were men suicides and 657 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 6.4 per 100,000 men and for women 1.3 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Mexico. However, in Mexico in 2002 there were there were 10,088 homicides, and therefore, number of deaths by murder is far greater than people to take their own lives. There were 2.6 homicides per suicide.
