Number of suicides increases in Mauritius

In 2007 around 138 suicides occurred in Mauritius, 5 more than in 2006.

Mauritius reported 11.15 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 138 recorded suicide cases in 2007, 104 were men suicides and 34 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 16.91 per 100,000 men and for women 5.44 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Mauritius suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 45 homicides in Mauritius, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.1 suicides.
