Suicides grow in Latvia

By 2020, suicides in Latvia increased by 11 people to at 299 suicides

In Latvia there were 15.89 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 9.27 suicides per 100,000 people.

Latvia is a country with a high rate of suicide.

Of the 299 recorded suicide cases in 2020, 247 were men suicides and 52 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 28.36 per 100,000 men and for women 5.18 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Latvia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 70 homicides in Latvia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 4.3 suicides.
