Number of suicides falls in Latvia

In 2022 occurred 226 suicides in Latvia. This year, 28 fewer people committed suicide than in 2021.

Latvia had 12.29 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.13 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 226 recorded suicide cases in 2022, 186 were men suicides and 40 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 22.17 per 100,000 men and for women 3.77 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Latvia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 67 homicides in Latvia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.4 suicides.
