Kenya - Intentional self-harm

In 2013 occurred 2,881 suicides in Kenya. This year, 77 more people committed suicide than in 2012. In 2013, on average 8 Kenyans committed suicide every day.

Kenya had 6.96 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.78 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 2,881 recorded suicide cases in 2013, 2,285 were men suicides and 595 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 10.27 per 100,000 men and for women 2.64 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Kenya suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 2,450 homicides in Kenya, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.2 suicides.
