Number of suicides increases in Iraq

In 2006 around 688 suicides occurred in Iraq, 33 more than in 2005. In Iraq, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Iraq reported 2.45 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.12 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Iraq has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 688 recorded suicide cases in 2006, 388 were men suicides and 300 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 2.7 per 100,000 men and for women 2.07 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Iraq. However, in Iraq in 2006 there were there were 1,267 homicides, then, homicides are more common than suicides. There were 1.8 homicides per suicide.
