Number of suicides increases in Estonia

In 2007 around 253 suicides occurred in Estonia, 6 more than in 2006.

Estonia reported 18.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 10 suicides per 100,000 people.

Estonia is a country with a high rate of suicide.

Of the 253 recorded suicide cases in 2007, 207 were men suicides and 46 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 33.2 per 100,000 men and for women 6.4 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Estonia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 96 homicides in Estonia, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.6 suicides.
