Of the 1,069 recorded suicide cases in 2004, 761 were men suicides and 308 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 11.23 per 100,000 men and for women 4.55 per 100,000 female.
Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Ecuador. However, in Ecuador in 2004 there were there were 2,390 homicides, and therefore, number of deaths by murder is far greater than people to take their own lives. There were 2.2 homicides per suicide.
