In Dominican Republic there were 8.33 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.69 self-harm per 100.000 people.
Of the 729 recorded suicide cases in 2003, 618 were men suicides and 111 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 13.65 per 100,000 men and for women 2.52 per 100,000 female.
Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Dominican Republic. However, in Dominican Republic in 2003 there were there were 1,902 homicides, and therefore, number of deaths by murder is far greater than people to take their own lives. There were 2.6 homicides per suicide.
