In 1980 around 1,932 suicides occurred in Austria, 49 more than in 1979. In 1980, on average 5 Austrians committed suicide every day.

Austria reported 25.6 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 14.29 suicides per 100,000 people.

Austria has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 1,932 recorded suicide cases in 1980, 1,342 were men suicides and 590 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 37.6 per 100,000 men and for women 14.8 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
