In May, vehicle registrations in Canada fell by 1.1% with respect to May of 1962. In total, 74,001 cars were registered and 601,540 new cars were sold in the last twelve months, 6.69% more than the year before.
The breakdown of car sales figures for the month of May is:
- Commercial vehicles sold: 9,954, 4.26% more than in May of 1962.
- Passenger cars regitrations: 64,047, which represents a figure of 1.88% less than in May of 1962.

With annual sales of 32.15 cars per 1,000 residents, 3.96 of them in the last month, Canada, occupies pole position, which tells us that its population enjoys a high standard of living.
As can be seen, the number of registrations per thousand residents has fallen in the last year. A drop in registrations generally indicates a fall in consumer confidence and, when it is sustained, a recession in the real economy.
