Share

A share is a financial security representing an aliquot part of the capital stock of a corporation (S.A.). The holder of shares of a company is a partner and owner of the company in the same proportion as his shares represent respect to the total shares of the company.

The shares entitle the holder to:

  • To subscribe new shares in the event of a capital increase
  • To vote at the General Shareholders' Meeting in which his vote will have the same weight as his shares have over the total capital of the company.
  • To receive a proportional share in the distribution of profits in the form of dividends and in the event of dissolution of the company.

The shares may be paid up or unpaid and may be registered or bearer shares. Likewise, the shares have a par value, a book value and a market value, called quotation when the share is traded on the stock market.
