Venezuela - Intentional self-harm

In 2003 occurred 1,819 suicides in Venezuela. This year, 114 fewer people committed suicide than in 2002. In 2003, on average 5 Venezuelans committed suicide every day.

Venezuela had 7.1 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.69 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 1,819 recorded suicide cases in 2003, 1,552 were men suicides and 266 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 12.03 per 100,000 men and for women 2.07 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Venezuela. However, in Venezuela in 2003 there were there were 11,342 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 6.2 homicides per suicide.
