Suicides increase in Trinidad and Tobago

In 2013 occurred 194 suicides in Trinidad and Tobago. This year, 8 more people committed suicide than in 2012.

Trinidad and Tobago had 14.31 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.78 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 194 recorded suicide cases in 2013, 161 were men suicides and 33 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 22.59 per 100,000 men and for women 4.55 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Trinidad and Tobago. However, in Trinidad and Tobago in 2013 there were there were 407 homicides, and therefore, number of deaths by murder is far greater than people to take their own lives. There were 2.1 homicides per suicide.
