In 2002 occurred 2,688 suicides in Tanzania. This year, 61 fewer people committed suicide than in 2001. In 2002, on average 7 Tanzanians committed suicide every day.

Tanzania had 7.83 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.78 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 2,688 recorded suicide cases in 2002, 2,021 were men suicides and 667 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 11.25 per 100,000 men and for women 3.63 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Tanzania suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 2,355 homicides in Tanzania, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.1 suicides.
