Suicides decreased in Slovakia

In 2017 around 377 suicides occurred in Slovakia, 13 less than in 2016. In Slovakia, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Slovakia reported 7.15 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.42 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 377 recorded suicide cases in 2017, 310 were men suicides and 67 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 12.06 per 100,000 men and for women 2.44 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Slovakia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 80 homicides in Slovakia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 4.7 suicides.
