Suicides decreased in Slovakia

In 2014 around 556 suicides occurred in Slovakia, 64 less than in 2013. In Slovakia, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Slovakia reported 10.52 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.71 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 556 recorded suicide cases in 2014, 473 were men suicides and 83 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 18.37 per 100,000 men and for women 3.06 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Slovakia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 72 homicides in Slovakia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 7.7 suicides.
