Number of suicides increases in Slovakia

In 2002 around 717 suicides occurred in Slovakia, 25 more than in 2001. In Slovakia, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Slovakia reported 13.3 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.78 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 717 recorded suicide cases in 2002, 617 were men suicides and 100 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 23.6 per 100,000 men and for women 3.6 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Slovakia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 121 homicides in Slovakia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 5.9 suicides.
