Number of suicides increases in Sierra Leone

In 2004 around 786 suicides occurred in Sierra Leone, 19 more than in 2003. On average, there are 2 suicides per day.

Sierra Leone reported 14.47 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.53 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 786 recorded suicide cases in 2004, 560 were men suicides and 227 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 20.33 per 100,000 men and for women 8.15 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Sierra Leone suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 112 homicides in Sierra Leone, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 7 suicides.
