Number of suicides increases in Saudi Arabia

In 2002 around 636 suicides occurred in Saudi Arabia, 16 more than in 2001. In Saudi Arabia, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Saudi Arabia reported 2.96 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.78 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Saudi Arabia, has a relatively low rate of suicide per inhabitants.

Of the 636 recorded suicide cases in 2002, 493 were men suicides and 142 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 3.82 per 100,000 men and for women 1.47 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Saudi Arabia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 285 homicides in Saudi Arabia, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.2 suicides.
