Suicides grow in Rwanda

By 2014, suicides in Rwanda increased by 17 people to at 976 suicides On average, there are 3 suicides per day.

In Rwanda there were 8.59 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.71 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 976 recorded suicide cases in 2014, 848 were men suicides and 128 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 15.36 per 100,000 men and for women 2.19 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Rwanda suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 428 homicides in Rwanda, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.3 suicides.
