In 2013 occurred 2,405 suicides in Romania. This year, 88 fewer people committed suicide than in 2012. In 2013, on average 7 Romanians committed suicide every day.

Romania had 12.17 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.78 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 2,405 recorded suicide cases in 2013, 2,042 were men suicides and 363 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 21.16 per 100,000 men and for women 3.6 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Romania suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 218 homicides in Romania, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 11 suicides.
