Number of suicides increases in Paraguay

In 2007 around 638 suicides occurred in Paraguay, 20 more than in 2006. In Paraguay, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Paraguay reported 10.68 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 638 recorded suicide cases in 2007, 439 were men suicides and 199 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 15.58 per 100,000 men and for women 7.18 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Paraguay. However, in Paraguay in 2007 there were there were 783 homicides, then, homicides are more common than suicides. There were 1.2 homicides per suicide.
