Suicides grow in Papua New Guinea

By 2007, suicides in Papua New Guinea increased by 18 people to at 555 suicides In Papua New Guinea, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

In Papua New Guinea there were 9.17 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 555 recorded suicide cases in 2007, 424 were men suicides and 131 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 11.76 per 100,000 men and for women 3.96 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Papua New Guinea suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 520 homicides in Papua New Guinea, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.1 suicides.
