Number of suicides increases in Panama

In 2014 around 237 suicides occurred in Panama, 51 more than in 2013.

Panama reported 6.05 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.71 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 237 recorded suicide cases in 2014, 210 were men suicides and 26 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 10.81 per 100,000 men and for women 1.36 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Panama. However, in Panama in 2014 there were there were 604 homicides, and therefore, number of deaths by murder is far greater than people to take their own lives. There were 2.5 homicides per suicide.
