Suicides decreased in Panama

In 2002 around 221 suicides occurred in Panama, 3 less than in 2001.

Panama reported 6.98 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.78 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 221 recorded suicide cases in 2002, 182 were men suicides and 39 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 11.61 per 100,000 men and for women 2.5 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Panama. However, in Panama in 2002 there were there were 376 homicides, then, homicides are more common than suicides. There were 1.7 homicides per suicide.
