Suicides increase in Oman

In 2014 occurred 240 suicides in Oman. This year, 20 more people committed suicide than in 2013.

Oman had 6 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.71 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 240 recorded suicide cases in 2014, 223 were men suicides and 17 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 8.59 per 100,000 men and for women 1.2 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Oman suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 12 homicides in Oman, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 20 suicides.
