Suicides decreased in Norway

In 2002 around 494 suicides occurred in Norway, 55 less than in 2001. In Norway, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Norway reported 10.9 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.78 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 494 recorded suicide cases in 2002, 362 were men suicides and 132 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 16.1 per 100,000 men and for women 5.8 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Norway suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 46 homicides in Norway, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 10.7 suicides.
