Suicides increase in Nicaragua

In 2007 occurred 663 suicides in Nicaragua. This year, 89 more people committed suicide than in 2006. In Nicaragua, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Nicaragua had 11.85 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 663 recorded suicide cases in 2007, 515 were men suicides and 148 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 18.66 per 100,000 men and for women 5.19 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Nicaragua. However, in Nicaragua in 2007 there were there were 714 homicides, then, homicides are more common than suicides. There were 1.1 homicides per suicide.
